Internationally-recognised dress historian, portrait specialist and photo detective. Jayne is familiar to genealogists world-wide from her family photograph books, regular photo dating and fashion history columns in UK family history magazines and her popular photograph dating stand at the ‘Who Do You Think You Are? Live’ show at Olympia each year.
A qualified dress historian with a BA (Hons) degree in History and a MA degree in the History of Dress from the Courtauld Institute of Art (University of London), Jayne gained extensive professional experience as a Curatorial Assistant at the Heinz Archive & Library, National Portrait Gallery in London during the 1990s. Now a freelance consultant, she operates mainly in the family history arena, writing books and articles, running annual workshops at the Society of Genealogists and lecturing and dating photographs at events and meetings in London and throughout the south of England. Jayne has personally analysed, dated, identified and interpreted many thousands of family photographs and hundreds of artworks during her professional career, which spans over 20 years.
